25 years of experience

"Everyone has their own story and a unique moment when they realize how cataracts are truly affecting their quality of life"
Journey
I was born into a family dedicated to helping others: my father was a psychiatrist and my mother a teacher. My calling for medicine woke early in childhood, while joining my father on his hospital rounds. From the waiting room, I watched how he brought peace and confidence to patients and their families even before the consultation began—an example of humanistic medicine that I have strived to follow ever since.
Shortly after, I lived through a life-changing experience: my grandfather underwent cataract surgery and stayed at our home during his recovery. At that time, technology was very different: the cataract was frozen inside the eye and removed through a large incision, carrying a high risk of complications. Without intraocular lens implants, patients relied on thick, heavy glasses that limited their vision. It was then that my fascination with ophthalmology was born.
Foundation and Social Commitment in Brazil
I earned my Medical Degree from the Federal University of São Paulo (1996) and specialized in Ophthalmology at the University of Campinas (Unicamp). From the very start of my career, I have served as an organizer and volunteer doctor in social projects for eye health and blindness prevention, partnering with organizations such as Rotary International, Lions Club, and USAID.
Hospital Experience and Innovation
Starting in 1997, I dedicated myself to eye surgery at the Unicamp Clinical Hospital. Between 1998 and 2001, I practiced as an ophthalmic surgeon at the Eye Hospitals of Taquaritinga and Divinolândia. In São José dos Campos, I collaborated with the Próvisão Eye Hospital, Santa Casa da Misericórdia, and the Health Division Hospital of the Aerospace Technical Center (Brazilian Air Force). I was also a founding partner of the Excimer Laser Eye Microsurgery Center, an innovative project that brought together dozens of specialists in the region.
The Path to Portugal and International Recognition
In 2001, I registered with the Medical Association of Portugal (OM 40863) and began my surgical practice in the Algarve. Over the years, I have served as an ophthalmic surgeon at SAMS Clinical Centers (Faro and Portimão), the Faro Eye Clinic, Santa Maria Hospital in Faro, São Gonçalo Hospital in Lagos, and the SAMS Hospital in Lisbon.
Between 2008 and 2013, I had the honor of establishing and coordinating the Ophthalmology Service at the Alentejo Litoral Hospital, leading a team dedicated to fighting cataract-related blindness. Since 2012, I have been practicing at the São Camilo and Alvor Hospitals in Portimão.
In 2013, I became a registered specialist with the General Medical Council in the UK. Although I received offers to practice at leading hospitals in major English cities, the warm welcome my family and I received in Portugal won our hearts, leading us to make the Algarve our permanent home.
A Commitment to Evolution
I stay constantly updated through the world’s leading scientific societies: the Portuguese (SPO), Brazilian (CBO), American (ASCRS), and European (ESCRS) Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Throughout the years, I have had the privilege of learning side-by-side with renowned masters and surgeons. This journey of constant refinement has taken me to centers of excellence in cities like Lisboa, Porto, São Paulo, Brasília, Salvador, Vigo, Barcelona, Viena, Indianápolis and Delhi, allowing for a valuable exchange of techniques that enriches my daily practice.
I believe that evolving as a doctor and as a human being is a daily commitment. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in my work; it is the personal story of each patient that inspires me to seek excellence, with humility and dedication, in every consultation and every surgery.
